Tufting Frame Ideas

FRAMING:

- The frame really depends on the size of your work and where you use it. It can be built like a half wall itself, a frame structure on the wall or a movable floor stand....the possibility is endless and very flexible. All you need for a tufting setup is a steady frame edged with nails or gripper strips to stretch out your backing fabric. We highly recommend making your own frame, here are some great examples for reference:

- Design your frame according to your work space or home, consider whether you need to move the frame in and out of the space, or having a permanent structure for large scale works. You can also make a small one to get started first, check out these steps for making a simple frame.

- Ready to build your own? Get some wood and mounting plates from your nearby hardware store and apply gripper: There are three ways to do it,

  1. Apply Gripper Strips ( these ready made short grips are good for small frames at home):

    Gripper Strips (Howard Brush)

  2. Put in two rolls of long nails zig-zagged with sharp ends outward (steady factory-style, requires caution in daily use):

3. Put in two rolls of brad nails like below (easier to apply compared to #2, the small brad nail heads can pierce through the backing just fine):
