Glue and Finish

BACK COATING and FINISHING:

- To finish, apply latex glue on the back of your tufted work and let it to dry. It can be brushed directly over your primary backing fabric or binded with a second layer of fabric called secondary backing. Refer to our video tutorial on applying liquid latex.

- Why apply glue? Back coating with latex or other glue types lock in the tufts and bind the fibers to prevent pilling and fuzzing. Adhering secondary backing fabrics improves dimensional stability, adding weights and improve resilience of the tufted works. Secondary backing fabric is usually used for finishing floor carpets, it is optional for tufted wall pieces or other artworks that doesn't require such stability.

- Common glue types for back coating are Latex, PVC and Vinyl. See below for detailed descriptions of each glue type.

- Carpet edge binding tapes are also optional, they can be applied for a protected edge finish.
